The Role

Are you passionate about the future of publishing and eager to influence strategy and make a lasting impact?

We’re looking for a Commissioning Editor to join our small, dynamic book publishing team at the Law Society, the professional body for solicitors in England and Wales.

In this role, you’ll commission and develop content for new titles and revised editions. You'll champion innovation and embrace how technology can enhance our publications. And you'll collaborate across teams to deliver trusted resources that help solicitors navigate a fast-changing legal landscape.

This is an exciting opportunity to implement our strategy for long-term business sustainability. If you’re ready to work proactively and help define the future direction of our publications business, we’d love to hear from you!

What we're looking for

This is a varied and rewarding role that requires a strong background in product development and editorial project management, the ability to build and maintain a network of expert authors and reviewers, and the initiative to research and identify commercially viable proposals.

You will be expected to develop your knowledge of current and emerging issues within the legal profession, engage and negotiate with authors, present business cases and liaise with marketing, policy and other internal teams. The successful candidate will be confident managing multiple projects and setting achievable deadlines.

What's in it for you

This is an excellent opportunity to work with contemporary thinkers in a progressive membership organisation. The successful candidate will join a strong brand with a reputation for excellence and legal expertise, committed to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion, and a culture of trust, clarity and respect.

We offer a generous flexible benefits package, a friendly working environment and the opportunity to develop your career within a professional organisation.

Please note: if you are an internal applicant, Pay Policy will apply.

The Law Society represents solicitors in England and Wales. From negotiating with and lobbying the profession's regulators, government and other decision makers, to offering training and advice, we're here to help, protect and promote solicitors.
