The Role

The Law Society is the independent professional body for solicitors in England and Wales. Our members are at the heart of what we do and we're committed to providing ongoing support, training and events to assist them in their careers.

The Senior Legal Adviser role will see you work autonomously but under the supervision of and supporting the Head of Legal. The scope of work can often be unpredictable, taking instructions from internal clients across a wide range of business areas including the Chief Executive Office.  Advice is often required under pressure, and a pragmatic and solution-focused approach is essential.

What we're looking for

We are looking for a qualified solicitor with at least 5 years post qualification experience, extensive and versatile experience advising on a range of legal areas.

To be successful, you will have excellent demonstrable knowledge of Judicial Review, Public and Administrative Law, Regulatory Law, Human Rights law, and the regulation of legal services including the Legal Services Act 2007 and the Solicitors Act 1974.  In addition, knowledge of Legal Policy, European Law, Competition Law and Data Protection/Freedom of Information would also be desirable.

You will be someone with a diverse knowledge base and solutions-focused approach with experience working with both internal and external stakeholders.  You will have the confidence and the ability to advise, present and influence at a senior stakeholder level, across the Society's business and governance.  You must have exceptional oral and written communication skills and the ability to adapt to an unpredictable work environment and to prioritise under pressure.

What's in it for you

You will undertake a role where you will be representing, supporting and promoting the legal profession, advising the Law Society across a spectrum of interesting and stimulating work.  You will conduct the case management of high profile and complex intervention litigation, involving issues of public interest.

We offer a generous flexible benefits package, a friendly working environment and the opportunity to develop your career within a professional organisation.

We believe in the benefits of a diverse workforce and strongly welcome applications from those currently under-represented in the organisation, including LGBT+ people, people with disabilities and people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds.

Please note: if you are an internal applicant, Pay Policy will apply.

To apply, please submit a CV and supporting statement (no more than 500 words) clearly demonstrating how you meet the requirements of the role.

The Law Society represents solicitors in England and Wales. From negotiating with and lobbying the profession's regulators, government and other decision makers, to offering training and advice, we're here to help, protect and promote solicitors.
