The Role

Are you an experienced campaigner committed to protecting the rule of law? Are you concerned about the erosion of the rule of law in the UK and looking for an opportunity to lead innovative action in response? If you are, this might be an ideal opportunity for you.

The Law Society is the membership body for the solicitor profession and is committed to protecting the fundamental principles of justice which underpin our society. We plan to launch a long-term programme to ‘reframe’ and promote the social, political and economic value of the rule of law and justice system. To lead this exciting new work, we are looking for an inspiring and experienced campaigner to create and deliver this and other impactful campaigns that build support for the rule of law. Being successful in this role means harnessing the expertise of colleagues and our members to drive campaigns that increase the visibility, reach and impact of the Law Society’s work on the rule of law, galvanise the support of a broad range of stakeholders, and dial up the public and political salience and importance attached to the justice system, the rule of law and the contribution of the legal profession to both.

You will lead a cross organisational team of issue and functional experts through matrix management, ensuring the campaign is aligned with the Law Society’s broader goals, mission and approach. Working with senior managers, Law Society’s Office Holders and colleagues to support broad and high-level stakeholder engagement on access to justice issues, you will create an ambitious programme for change and work with others to deliver a campaign with impact.

What we're looking for

To be successful you will need to demonstrate experience of successfully delivering and leading high profile and complex campaign strategies that harness multiple channels to achieve agreed goals whilst also being able to work across different sectors and across different Government agendas.

An essential part of this work will require the successful candidate to have experience of leading and organising teams with multiple functions and expertise, including policy, communications, research and public affairs.

You will need to demonstrate experience of leading broad and high-level stakeholder engagement and being a credible external representative for a campaign or organisation.

An understanding of current political and policy developments relevant to the rule of law, and a demonstrable commitment to responding to them, would be an advantage

What's in it for you

This is an excellent opportunity to work with contemporary and modern thinkers in the world of law and legal justice.  The successful candidate will join a strong brand that is synonymous with excellence, legal expertise and trust.  This is a friendly team committed to a culture of dignity, respect and belonging.

Please note: if you are an internal applicant, Pay Policy will apply.

To apply, please submit a CV and supporting statement (no more than 500 words) clearly demonstrating how you meet the requirements of the role.

First round interviews are expected to take place during w/c 6th June 2022.

The Law Society represents solicitors in England and Wales. From negotiating with and lobbying the profession's regulators, government and other decision makers, to offering training and advice, we're here to help, protect and promote solicitors.
